Yoga classes offer promising benefits

UTA students, faculty and staff can take part of the world of Yoga and Meditation.
Shambu Sharan, UTA Universal Yoga-Meditation Club President started the club to teach free classes to promote physical and mental health.
Sharan said the classes include yogasanas (yoga positions), self-message and relaxation techniques.
He said practicing yoga regularly makes the body flexible, energetic, relaxed, and can help cure physical and psychic diseases through balancing the glandular secretion of hormones.
Sharan said meditation also gives mental awareness, calmness and peacefulness.
“One can achieve happiness and peace of mind through meditation,” he said. “This can be done through the pineal glands, which is a master gland secreting melatonin and serotonin.”
Classes are Wednesdays from 5:30–7 p.m. with varying locations each week.
